Steve Reeves’ Workout Drink

Steve-Reeves-main

Mr. America in 1947, Mr. World in 1948 and Mr. Universe in 1950.

Steve Reeves was one of the biggest bodybuilding stars of the mid twentieth-century. While his physique may pale in comparison to the mass monsters of today, there is no denying that he had a remarkable physique.

Known for a no-nonsense attitude in the gym and in the kitchen (check out his definition diet here), Reeves’ workout drink, given below reflected his belief in simplicity. When training began to lag, Reeves would reach for his workout drink and find the energy to complete two or three more sets. For those of you looking to get amped before a PR, this is not the workout for you.

Unlike modern pre-workouts whose functionality lies somewhere between weight training and night clubbing, Reeves’ drink provides a sustained energy source across a workout without the feeling of wanting to run through a brick wall.  borders

So try it out for yourself and see what happens.

Simply mix the following together:

1. 1/2 cup lemon juice
2. 3 tablespoons of honey (mix thoroughly until the lemon juice dissolves the honey)
3. 1/2 gallon of water

Mix the lemon juice and honey first before combining the 1/2 gallon of water. Generally Reeves would take 2 or 3 sips in between sets, thereby consuming the entire thing during his workouts.

At the very least it tastes fantastic and is cheaper and healthier than the $40 cherry flavoured workout powder many lifters have become accustomed to!
