Go Go Gadget: Must-Have Accessories for the Fitness Freak in Your Life

Budding fitness fanatics have a lot more help available to them than they used to. Alongside essential kit that has been around for ages like knee supports and running shoes, there are now high-tech gadgets that offer detailed insights into their workout. Of course, these accessories are not meant to be a substitute for hard work – you don’t want people whispering, “all the gear, but no idea” as you jog past, after all. However, these fitness-boosting gadgets should give you a helping hand if you’re looking to squeeze a little bit extra from your exercise routine.

Wearable fitness trackers

Although you may be determined to improve your fitness, it can be difficult to know whether you’re making progress and not everyone can afford to pay for their own personal trainer.

Wearable fitness trackers, however, can now provide you with a host of information about your workout. By measuring a combination of metrics, like heart rate, calories burned and exercise time, these devices can tell you how you’ve been performing and even set workout goals for next time.

Smart headphones

Many people who stay active like to wear headphones when they workout, as music has been shown to have a positive impact on their performance.

Although banging beats work for some, others opt for a more subdued soundtrack like an audio book. Now, there’s a third option in the form of artificial intelligence coaching headphones. These provide real-time advice during your workout informing you of your technique and stress levels – it’s like having your very own personal trainer in your ear.

Apps to keep you active

Alongside all the physical gadgets that are available, mobile apps are now a major part of staying active. They range from the relatively simple, informing you of how long you’ve ran and how many calories you’ve burned, to the more complex, showing you a range of workout routines to help you meet your goals. The great thing about these apps is that they won’t cost you an arm and a leg as you only need your smartphone.

Scaling the heights

If you’re exercising to lose weight, then having an accurate set of scales is a must. Smart scales are now available that tell you your BMI, body fat percentage and resting heart rate. Many of them are also now Wi-Fi enabled, meaning that they transfer your data to a personal online account, so you can keep track of your progress via a smartphone app.

Lights, camera, action

If your workout involves something a little bit more thrilling than lifting weights or running round the block, then a sports-ready camera could be just what you need.

These gadgets are tiny, so they won’t get in the way of your workout, but are capable of taking some impressively detailed pictures, so you can look back on that exhilarating mountain bike session or that last-minute winning goal.

If you want to kick-start your exercise sessions but aren’t sure how, the above gadgets may be just what you need to push your workout to the next level.

Happy training!

  1. I’d take a good a pair of gloves over most of this stuff. I miss the chalk days. I personally think aps, phones, and ‘tech’ are distractions that zap concentration and help enable excuse making. I see too many people at the gym texting and browsing on their phones.

    1. Absolutely, have seen a worrying trend lately of people using their phones in between sets, on the treadmill and even during an exercise at times. There’s a lot to be said for shutting off from the outside world for a workout!
