In life, we’re often told that looking to the champions in any given field is the best way to success. Their achievements push us to be the best we can and often work well as motivators. The same is often said for bodybuilding. Beginners look to individuals like 8x Mr Olympia winner, Ronnie Coleman for their inspiration. Is it any wonder, then, that they give up at the first hurdle? In truth, looking to the best may not be the right way to start. Instead, you should focus on your journey and your abilities. If you want to make a go of this, you have to realize that the path to success is often paved with false starts. You may have signed up for bodybuilding, not hurdle jumping, but there are sure to be some hurdles along the way. Here are just a few of them.

You Can’t Find A Workout Which Works

The most important thing for any bodybuilder is their workout routine. This is what will build muscle. It’ll form the primary basis of your routine, and take you to success or failure. As it’s so important, it’s no surprise that our workout routines are the first hurdle. And for most of us, there are plenty of false starts involved. Instead of beating yourself up when you can’t find a routine that works, or worse, sticking to a routine you aren’t enjoying, accept when things aren’t right. No pro sports person found their ideal method the first time around. For the most part, this is a matter of trial and error.

Of course, there is some help along the way. You could try to learn more about workout routines by reading reviews. That way, you’ll be able to see if there are issues which are likely to be relevant to you, too. Or, you could take inspiration from others. Ask fellow bodybuilders what works for them. If you don’t know any, hit the internet and ask in a forum! Whatever you do, don’t give up. Perseverance will lead you to the perfect routine.

You Can’t Master The Diet

What you eat also plays a huge part in your success. The chances are that you already know about the strict regulations of a high-protein diet. But, too many people give up when they have one slip. Don’t do it. We all slip up from time to time, especially in the early days. To go back to the hurdling comparison, one fall shouldn’t be enough to stop you jumping again. Take a break, then come back to it.

A Weightlifting Failure

The reason we put all this effort in is to lift weights! During your bodybuilding journey, you’ll set yourself target weights. It’s the best way to motivation. But, what happens when the day comes, and you fail? Nothing. You go back to the drawing board and start again. Don’t make the mistake of letting one missed weight date stop you lifting again! Think about it, what would that achieve?
