Betty Boop and Little Jimmy (1936)

Admittedly I’m a fan of early twentieth-century cartoons. Maybe it is because I spent so much time watching them in my grandparent’s house as a child or maybe it is because they are just so fun to watch, I don’t know. Now previously we have looked at physical culture in Popeye cartoons, which is a fairly obvious example. A spate of mindless Youtube watching has uncovered yet another gem.

This time coming from Betty Boop, a cartoon not generally associated with health and fitness. Nevertheless the video clip provides a nice example of how pervasive health and fitness was at times in America and the wider world. So sit back and enjoy… I dare you not to sing the Betty Boop fitness song either!
