With all the gym equipment available on the market today, it’s easy to neglect the good old treadmill. We’ve been using these things to stay fit for years, and they’ve evolved to better suit our needs over time. There are loads of reasons why installing your own treadmill can be a great idea, but there are some cons as well. We’re going to explore a few of these today.

Weight Loss & Fitness

Treadmills are popular for a reason, and that’s because they’re a great way to lose weight and gain fitness. They are a fantastic substitute for running outdoors when the weather is bad or you simply can’t be bothered to go outside. That said, using a selection of gym equipment is normally better than just one. The jury’s out when it comes using the cross trainer versus the treadmill for losing weight, but a combination of both is the ideal solution. Want to ensure lasting weight loss? Combine your treadmill use with a good weight lifting programme.

Cost

Bringing a good treadmill home is going to result in a fairly costly initial outlay. There are plenty of different types available on the market, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to come cheap. On the other hand, you’re going to save a vast amount of money on gym fees. You’ll no longer have to pay petrol to drive over there all the time, either.

Private Exercise

Some people don’t enjoy exercising in public, especially when they’re self-conscious about their weight. Running on a treadmill at home solves this issue, making it much more likely for you to convince yourself to work out. However, you begin to become a bit of a hermit in the process. There’s no one to talk to and no social environment to get involved in. Some people will like this; some people won’t.

Engagement

In general, treadmills don’t get boring easily. That’s because you can multitask with no problems, such as watching TV or listening to music. This is admittedly the same case in the gym, but there are more distractions around you in that situation. In all honesty, there aren’t many cons to this scenario. Treadmills are simply excellent for staying engaged and reducing boredom.

Space

Treadmills don’t require a whole lot of space, making them excellent for most living arrangements. That said, they won’t fit in every single home. If you live in a small flat above a family downstairs, they’re not going to enjoy the constant hammering of your feet on the apparatus. You certainly need to consider whether it’s feasible to install one before you go clicking that purchase button.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, it’s all down to personal preference whether you want to install your own treadmill. You need to consider all the factors before entering into the decision. Look at your budget and how much you’re currently spending on trips to the gym. However you choose to exercise, the most important thing is that you’re actually doing it. Staying fit and healthy is the key, so you should take steps to ensure you can do this in the best possible way.

  1. Purchasing a treadmill was one of the best moves I made. I purchased a commercial model for just $300.00 on craigslist over two years ago and it is still going strong today. Living in the Rainy Pacific Northwest there are many days where it is just too wet and cold to run outside and the treadmill was the perfect option. Another plus is that your not allowed to run in your underwear at the gym. LOL

  2. Thanks so much for stopping buy. Delighted you found buying a treadmill to be worthwhile. My current fantasy is to transform my own home into a home gym to experience the joy of underwear training!

  3. Treadmill desks are becoming popular in some schools – especially for kids with attention problems. Yayy for the adoption of cruel and unusual punishments as an educative method! 😉

  4. Nice and clearly explained. The pros and cons made me think again about buying the treadmill and now I saved my money for something else. Now I joined the gym and made some friends and we are enjoying our weight loss program.
