‘Speed and Power Exercises for Wrestlers’, a Soviet Documentary from the 1980s

Admittedly a little bit longer than the normal videos I post here, the following film is too interesting to pass up on. Produced in the late 1980s in the final years of the Soviet Union, the film is part propaganda and part instructional exercises. Done to show the training needed to be a champion wrestler, it marks a fascinating insight into the bodyweight and weighted exercises done by Soviet athletes.

Despite the fact that I have no idea what the narrator is saying, the video had me absolutely captivated. Hopefully you all agree!

  1. This technique in the zercher squat destroys my body, lol

    An interesting documentary!

    1. It wrecks me as well. Last time I did Zerchers, I had a towel wrapped around the bar – problem was it was a bright beach towel – Didn’t hear the end of the insults from my partners!
